Frequently Asked Questions
Does skin needling hurt?
The treatment can feel a little uncomfortable particularly on the forehead as there isn't much skin tissue there and the
skin is generally thinner. You can purchase numbing from your local pharmacy and apply it as per their instructions. This will be discussed in the Skin Consultation, if you have any questions, please contact Skinlift Studio.
Do I need to prepare my skin before the treatment?
It is best to prepare your skin with active ingredients, sunscreen and other skin treatments to increase the efficacy of your results and prevent any unwanted pigmentation arising or adverse reactions that can happen if your skin isn't ready for advanced treatments.
Do I need to book in for a skin consultation?
Yes, it is highly recommended to book in for a Skin Consultation even if you have had skin needling elsewhere. Every clinic has different standards, and it is best practice to have an interactive consultation and check your history, your skin concerns, talk through skin goals, skincare routine and perform a skin analysis to make sure you are a suitable candidate for the skin needling.
What can I expect after skin needling?
Immediately post treatment your skin will have erythema (redness) may feel warm to hot and tight like sunburn, tiny blood spotting (petechiae), some minor irritation and slight swelling may be present for the next 24 to 48 hours. Some skin peeling can be expected 3 days post treatment. Yellow LED Light Therapy can be added to your treatment to increase the wound healing phase and reduce the heat in the skin. You will be provided with post-care information on how to best care for your skin, certain activities will need to be avoided for 48 to 72 hours and a gentle skincare routine will be required.
How many skin needling treatments will I need?
Can be anywhere from 8 to 12 monthly treatments and then maintenance 3 to 4 times a year. Depending on your skin concerns, other treatments may be suggested in between skin needling and a customised skincare routine will be recommended to achieve the best results for you.
What areas can be treated with skin needling?
Common areas are the face, neck, decollete for common skin concerns, the stomach, buttocks and upper thighs are treated for stretchmarks and other areas such as the arm or legs are treated for scaring.
